Singing in a professional vocal jazz quartet. A long cherished dream, shared by Nynke Hoitsma and Anne-Lie Persson. Two women who have known each other for years through the music scene in Groningen, the Netherlands. In the late summer of 2010 this dream came true. Complemented by two male vocalists Jeroen Kriek and Jasper Blokzijl, TREATS was born.
Inspiration for forming TREATS was, among other things, the American jazz quartet The New York Voices. Like them, TREATS is constantly thriving for exciting and challenging close harmony jazz arrangements. They make use of Darmon Meader’s (NYV) work, but their own songs and arrangements will continue to play a leading role in their repertoire.

A lot of work has been done since the creation of TREATS in 2010, and more importantly a series of amazing concerts have taken place in various locations. Because of the close interaction among the four singers, the group found a balance which formed a base for the growing musical levels and musical development. It felt like the right step towards creating an album.
This album was recorded in multiple locations throughout the Netherlands, naming: Studio Wijnbergen in Harlingen, StudioMON in Groningen, Flatsharp Productions in Stedum and Studio Spitsbergen in Zuidbroek.

The fact that all four singers received conservatory training, does not give a guaranty for success. Yet their talent is fed by the joy they experience in performing music. This joy is importantly made into reality thanks to the equally driven guidance band with fantastic soloists, consisting out of bass player Marco Kerver, Imre Kruis on drums, Tony Hoyting on the piano and saxophone player Steven Sluiter.

Treats debute is a tumbling singing experience. The suggestion that the harmonies are incomplete, or that the arrangements lack balance is not relevant at all. Their harmonies are challenging, precise and it feels just right. (Hessel Fluitman, Friesch Dagblad)
